CXP-Powered I-MINDS Capabilities 1.0 |
We have built a
suite of I-MINDS Conference XP capabilities, from May 2005 to February
2006. We have grouped these capabilities
as I-MINDS Conference XP Capabilities 1.0.
|
GroupChat |
This GroupChat capability was completed in August 2005, and was
later released together with the Conference XP Platform. This capability basically allows a user to
view incoming messages and to send messages.
In addition, this capability allows a user to manage different group
discussions and target specific messages for different groups. The capability automatically filters the
messages exchanged in the CXP venue for users in the proper group.
|
VideoManager (& VideoManager+) |
This VideoManager capability was completed in October 2005. This capability basically allows a user to manage
video streams, allowing the user to dictate whose videos would be broadcast to
other venue users, and allowing other users to request for their videos to be
broadcast. This capability allows an
instructor to choose which students’ videos to be shared and the number of
videos broadcast at any given time.
The VideoManagerPlus capability was later completed in November
2005. Similar to its predecessor, the
only improvement is that it allows for actual blocking of video streams,
cutting down the video traffic in the venue effectively.

QuestionAnswering |
This QuestionAnswering capability was completed in December
2005. This capability has two views: an
instructor application and a student application. The person in charge of the Q&A session
(e.g., an instructor) can pick and choose questions to answer. The application helps manage the
questions. The users asking questions
(e.g., a student) can review their questions and answers. They can also ask
questions.
This capability
also has agent intelligence. The
instructor application scores each question based on keywords and also “machine
learns” from the instructor about what keywords are important
behind-the-scenes, without interfering with the instructor’s actions. This allows the capability to learn to score
each question more accurately over time.

BuddyGroup |
This BuddyGroup capability was completed in February 2006. It has advanced message management,
statistics display, and student group support.
All messages are tracked and themed using a message tree, allowing
I-MINDS to track in fine resolution every group discussion. It also computes statistics on the fly,
allowing a student to monitor how his or her buddies (peers) have been doing in
the group.
This capability
is the “bread-and-butter” of I-MINDS: it collects and analyzes data
automatically for our student agents.
This also provides wonderful opportunities as a testbed
for educational research studies.

QuerySearch |
This QuerySearch capability is about to be completed (March
2006). It works hand-in-hand with our BuddyGroup capability.
It allows the user to search the messages via free-text and structured
queries.
