Java I-MINDS

At the current stage, our Java I-MINDS system is matured in two fronts: (1) enabling technologies, and (2) intelligent technologies.  Table 1 shows the multimedia and GUI capabilities of I-MINDS, which constitute its enabling technologies.

Enabling Technologies

Live audio (2-way)

Live video (1-way)

Superimposition of handwriting (MIMIOS) on lecture screen, superimposition of text on archived lecture pages

Automated archival

Multicast/broadcast

Multicharacter forum and chat room (colors and fonts)

Multicharacter e-whiteboard (colors and fonts, exclusive tokens)

Annotation and asynchronous review of archived lectures

Rich and flexible control of system features

Table 1.  Multimedia and GUI capabilities that enable I-MINDS

Table 2 shows the agent-based implementations of I-MINDS, which constitute its intelligent technologies.

Initelligent Technologies

Text parsing and categorization

User profiling

Reinforcement learning on agent reasoning

Group formation and refinement

Real-time automated evaluation of questions

Real-time tracking of user activities

Table 2.  Agent-based intelligent designs of I-MINDS

We have also conducted actual tests of I-MINDS in the classroom in Spring and Fall 2005 in CSCE 155 (CS1) at the University of Nebraska.  Analysis and results have been reported in various papers (see our publications page).
