About Me

I am an Assistant Professor of Practice in the School of Computing at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a Computer Engineer, and recently retired U.S Air Force Major(you can find my CV here). My research interests include robotics, embedded systems, 3D modeling, and simulation design. My areas of specialization include VLSI Systems, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, Advanced Digital Design.

I enjoy spending time with my family, computers/robotics, watching movies, woodworking, getting outside. I am married to Britney Falkinburg who is an elementary school counselor at Springville Elementary in Omaha.

If you want to meet with me, you can call my office or send me an e-mail if you are in one of my classes. If you are not in one of my classes, you should email me first. If you want to find out more about me...Here is an article about me in the SoC Bits & Bytes newsletter and This is a Faculty Feature on me in the SoC Bits & Bytes

Senior Design Sponsor 2021-2022 and 2022-2023

I had been a Tribe Lead for two years and noticed the fact that many of our senior design projects are focused on software and most do not provide any focus on hardware or embedded systems projects. For the 2021-2022 academic year I decided to sponsor a couple of senior design projects to provide a project with more of computer engineering or embedded computing focus. I have been tribe lead for many senior design projects that were creating a VR capability or an Android/Apple app capability. Both of my projects were very successful so we decided to continue them another year.

The Husker Scope project is an all-in-one cross platform (iOS, Android, and Web App) application that implements a Dual Channel Function Generator, AM/FM Modulator, and Single Channel Oscilloscope functionality for use within UNL engineering courses and around the world. Students are adding in a Spectrum Analyzer capability and developing a hardware interface to enable two-channel inputs outside the audio range as well as allowing multi-channel inputs for a Logic Analyzer capability.

The Husker STEM VR project is an outreach/recruitment app built for the Oculus Quest , iOS , Android , and Web App. Students built this virtual reality app for UNL's School of Computing and College of Engineering to encourage STEM outreach. This app began to help to make learning fun by creating a virtual reality app designed to create an engaging learning environment. Now that VR app has been extended to include multiple mobile platforms to increase the distribution even further. Additionally, we can promote more diversity in STEM by creating an educational environment that promotes inclusiveness.
