Ashok Samal received his Bachelor of Technology degree in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur, India in 1983. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Utah in 1988. Since Fall 1988 he has been with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he is currently an Associate Professor. His research interests are image understanding, geospatial analysis and computer-assisted learning. He has published over 50 papers in these areas in international journals and conferences.

He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in computer vision, geospatial analysis, medical image analysis, computer graphics and programming languages.
