CSCE 970 (Spring 2017) Homework 3

When you hand in your results from this homework, you should submit the following, in separate files:

1. A zip file called username1-username2.zip, where username1 and username2 are your team members' user names on cse. In this zip file, put the source code of your programs.
2. A single .pdf file with your writeup of the results for all the homework problems. Only pdf will be accepted, and you should only submit one pdf file, with the name username1-username2.pdf, where username1 and username2 are your team members' user names on cse. Include all your results in this file, and all discussion.

Submit everything by the due date and time using the handin program.

On this homework, you must work with your homework partner.

You are to do the following TensorFlow tutorial:

• Recurrent Neural Networks

In doing the tutorial, you should also read through the paper by Zaremba et al. (2014).

Write a brief (1–2 page) report summarizing your results from this tutorial. Include an analysis of how loss changes across the model configurations small and medium (configuration large is optional). Were your results similar to what were expected by the tutorial?

After finishing the tutorial, run it again while either decreasing the learning rate schedule or by employing dropout between the LSTM layers. Summarize the results of this test.
