CSCE 488, Fall 2001 HOMEWORK 3

Due Dates:

* Submit Papers electronically (in pdf format) by Monday, October 1, 8:30 a.m.

* Submit your two paper reviews electronically by Friday, October 5, 8:30 a.m.

* Submit electronically a revised version of your paper (in pdf format) by Wednesday, October 10, 8:30 a.m.

Purpose: This assignment is intended to give you practice on doing a critical review of technical papers and taking advantage of such reviews to improve your writing. You will submit your paper reviews via this web interface.

Assignment:

1. Paper Submission: Submit, by the due date indicated above, a revised version of the paper you submitted earlier for Homework 1. This time, only pdf files will be accepted; if you still have trouble with this after specifying a postscript printer, printing to a file, and using ghostview or ps2pdf, see me ASAP. In making the revisions, take into account my feedback and the evaluation criteria listed on the paper evaluation web page. Significant improvements on the second draft will improve your grade on Homework 1.

2. Paper Reviews: You will be assigned two papers to review according to the criteria indicated in the paper evaluation web page. Submit your reviews by the deadline using the web interface. Your identity as reviewer will remain anonymous to the author. Your review should be an honest assessment of the paper according to the criteria. Bear in mind that the main objective of the review is to help the author with constructive comments. This part of the assignment will carry 70% of your grade for Homework 3.

3. Paper Resubmission: As author you will have access to all the reviews on your paper. Revise your paper one more time and make a final submission by the indicated deadline (again, in pdf format). This part will carry 30% of your grade for Homework 3. In grading it, I will consider how well you have made use of all the feedback provided to you by the reviewers.
