Course Information

Summary:
The JDHEP Design Studio is a two-year course in which you will work on at least one team project each year. You may work on multiple projects during the year. Most projects are year-long projects sponsored by a company or other organization. The goal is to select projects that require a mix of business and software engineering skills to successfully complete.

The three principal objectives of this course are to:

    1. Expose students to engineering, managerial, and business problems encountered during the development of software-intensive products.
    2. Guide teams through a team development process.
    3. Demonstrate the benefits of using a defined and measured process.

Notice that successfully completing a project, which usually means creating a software product on time that meets its requirements, is not a principal objective. We would like every project to result in a software product that meets all of its requirements and is delivered on time, but experience gained by following a defined and measured process will take precedence when necessary.
