Six undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences—including computer science sophomore and undergraduate research assistant KimHao Nguyen—were recognized by the college for their presentations at Nebraska Student Research Days, a week-long celebration of student research and creative activity held online April 12-16.
His project, "GenTree: Using Decision Trees to Learn Interactions for Configurable Software," introduces a new classification and learning algorithm designed to analyze highly-configurable software systems with billions of possible configuration scenarios.
Nguyen's work has been accepted for publication in the technical track of the International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE), the premiere conference in software engineering. Nguyen will present his work at the 2021 conference, which will be held in May.
"It is very rare for an undergraduate, especially a freshman (which Nguyen was when he completed the work), to be the main author of an ICSE paper," said assistant professor ThanhVu Nguyen, who co-authored the paper and advised his research.
