Brief Biography

Dr. Xue Liu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at University of Nebraska of Lincoln (UNL). He is also the Samuel R. Thompson Associate Professor in the College of Engineering. 

From 2007 to 2009, he was an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He was also an assistant professor (by courtesy) of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, an associated member of the Centre for Intelligent Machines (CIM), and an associated member of the Centre for Advanced Systems and Technologies in Communications (SYTACom). 

Dr. Liu obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2006. He obtained his B.S. degree in Mathematics and Master's degree in Automatic Control both from Tsinghua University,  Beijing, China. He worked briefly as a visiting faculty researcher and summer interns in the Hewlett-Packard Labs and IBM T. J. Watson Research Center.  Dr. Liu received the Ray Ozzie Fellowship, the Saburo Muroga Fellowship, the Mavis Memorial Fund Award, and the C. W. Gear Outstanding Graduate Award from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has been granted 1 US patent and filed 4 other US patents, and published more than 100 research papers in major peer-reviewed international journals and conference proceedings, including the IEEE Transactions of Industrial Informatics's Best Paper Award of the Year 2008. Dr. Liu's research has been supported by NSERC Discovery Grant Award, NSERC Strategic Grant, Quebec Fund for Research on Nature and Technology (FQRNT) New Researcher Award, NSERC CRD Grant, Mathematics of Information Technology and Complex Systems(MITACS), CRIAQ, MDEIE, and Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI).

    Our lab welcomes enthusiastic and motivated postdoctoral students, exchange students (including CSC students), research associates, and other academic visitors.  We will be working in the broad areas of computer systems and networking. Background in embedded systems, math, control, optimization, communication, networking or other EECS-related subjects is a plus. Please contact me with your CV (with past research projects, experiences, and publications), and a proposal detailing what research you would like to do in our Lab.
