Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce 1991

(Bought January 6, 2016 from Los Angeles)

Advertisement Description (AlfaBB):

Considering selling my 1991 Spider. This car has been in the family for years but new opportunities have me considering selling it. It has a bit of a unconventional look which I really like but the original wheels can go back on if you wish.
  • Mileage is about 100K Silver original paint, some clear coat problem areas. Beige interior, black top.
  • Sits on some 16x7 Rota Rb wheels with 215/45-16 Falken Azenis
  • IAP Red Springs
  • Brand new Koni Sports
  • New factory cat.
  • A lot of recent work including driveshaft rebuild, electrical tuneup, fuel pump and filters, gas tank was hot tanked, etc etc.

Runs great and has no transmission issues, this car handles like it's on rails and ready for some fun. This thing gets a lot of thumbs up around town. Car is located in Sun Valley, near Burbank Airport.

Owner's Description via Emails:

  1. Suspension is new Koni Yellows with some IAP Red springs front and back. The rest of the bushings are original I believe. She doesn't have any immediate need for a bushing job, car drives very straight.
  2. The entire exhaust system was replaced with brand new parts from Centerline includng the "stinger" rear section. The rear section comes pretty close to the body work but clears just enough, it made car a little nicer sounding but is by no means loud or annoying.
  3. NO major dents, and handful of minor dings with age. I think she wears them well :)
  4. No Rips on seats, just wear.
  5. Oil, doesn't burn much, I don't drive it enough to tell you about consumption, but she doesn't leave a single drop on my driveway believe it or now.
  6. NO major (or minor) rust. Nice and solid underneath.
  7. No electrical issues, one headlight was being dodgy and I cleaned the grounds and she worked great again. I removed airbag sensors and computer, so no light.
  8. NO antenna, but it still picks up FM signals, stereo is an older Alpine which still works in CD mode too.
  9. Two cracks on dash :(one from the vent forward and one from instrument bezel forward).
  10. I just bought hardtop for it, I'll include it. It's too rare (and in silver for that matter) to not include it.
  11. No tears in top but it did have a very foggy window so I cut it out :)

Condition of the Seats

The Alcatera centers are all worn out. The leather pieces are dried and cracked. As such, I decided to redo the seats. Instead of using leather, I choose to go with leather grained vinyl since I plan to keep the top down most of the time. This should be durable. I also decided to go with black instead of tan interior.

Current Condition

When the car arrived, it drove really well but cosmatically, it needed a lot of work. The clearcoat peeling problem was pretty much on every horizontal surface. It however, had zero rust. The soft top smelled really musty. The trunk carpet set was missing. The parcel shelf behind the seat was also missing. The right rear tire was leaking air. The passenger side-view mirror was held together by duct tape.
From March to about mid July, I've spent a couple of hours a night here and there to perform the following tasks to this car:
  1. tigtening the exhaust system,
  2. replacing the vacuum host for the brake booster,
  3. bypassing the leaky heater control valve,
  4. trouble shooting the radiator fan,
  5. reupholstering the two seats,
  6. replacing the door panels,
  7. building the parcel shelf,
  8. sanding off the peeled clear coat,
  9. removing every trim pieces so that it can be painted (the paint job was done in April),
  10. replacing the original knee bolsters with the ones from S3,
  11. reparing the passenger side view mirror,
  12. replacing the canvas top,
  13. upgrading the ECU to Squadra Chip,
  14. replacing the noisy main fuel pump (the intank pump was replaced by the PO),
  15. replacing the noisy vacuum release valve to trap fuel vapor,
  16. installing the trunk carpet,
  17. reparing the cracked dash with Sugru,
  18. finish-sanding the paint,
  19. buffing the paint in preparation for Lauritzen Garden European Car Show.
