1967 Alfa Romeo Sprint GT Veloce

Bought from a Marathon Gas Station outside of Chicago in 1992
Sold in 2006

I bought this car in 1992. I am the unconfirmed 4th owner of it. I don't know who was the first owner but the second owner had the car service by the same mechanic that I used throughout my ownership. The second owner sold the car to a diamond dealer sometimes in the mid 80s. The diamond dealer got bored of the car in the early 90 and ask his friend who owned a gas station in the suburb of Chicago to sell it for him. That was where I found this car.
  • I bought the car in 1992. Since then I only put up less than 5K miles.
  • Original 1600 engine that was rebuilt about 20 years ago but with less than 10K miles. Oil starts to seep at the back of the head but still running strong. It does not smoke.
  • The original front Dunlop brakes were replace with ATE from late 80's spider.
  • It has a rebuilt limited slip rear-end from 77 spider (4.55 ratio).
  • It has Marelli Plex electronic ignition system.
  • It has a set of hard to find 7-inch alfa steel rims. I bought it from a dealer about 12 years ago.
  • The car was stripped to metal in 1992 and was repainted in the original green color. It had minimal rust to begin with (right wheel arch, bottom of right door, and outer rockers). It has thin coat of Bondo in some areas to smooth out metal. It had no rust through on the floor board. New sheet metals were weld in. All the rubber seals were replaced as well as the headliner (but not original).
  • It also has european tail lights.
  • It has some scratch marks on the right rear fender round the door (shown in the picture). The right door also has a big ding (also shown in the picture). There is a lead swollen (moltened lead was used to filled small rust through holes) around the bottom half of the door.
  • There are some dings on both stainless bumpers (shown in the pictures).
  • We rebuilt the drive-shaft a few years ago but less than 2000 miles.
  • We replaced the shocks and springs on all four corners. We used sachs (OEM shock for the spider) and International Auto Parts Springs.
  • The front muffer was taken out since it eminated a lot of heat around the driver foot well. It runs sweet and loud right now.
  • The trasmission was rebuilt many years ago. It has no major grind on second. However, 5th can pop out if you hit a big bump on the road. I was told that this is because the 1600 transmission has no synchro in the fifth and reverse gears.
  • I also have the original air filter assembly. However the rubber tube that connect the cold air box with the aluminum intake is in a bad shape and will need to be replaced before it is usable.
