Help with LaTeX, etc.

To get started with LaTeX, I recommend using the following template. Just enter your personal information and the text of your writeup. For more advanced usage, try this tutorial and Leslie Lamport's manual.

To plot experimental results, there are many choices, including gnuplot, Matlab, Mathematica, and Excel. The first three can write to postscript and be included in LaTeX, and possibly Word. Excel plots can be included in Word.

To draw pictures, using xfig will allow you to save your figure in encapsulated postscript, LaTeX format, etc., which you can include in LaTeX. In Word, you can use its picture drawing package.
