Abstract

This paper describes an empirical comparison of two regression test selection techniques, focusing on two safe techniques: DejaVu and TestTube. The study suggests that "coarse-grained" techniques such as TestTube, despite their lack of precision, are frequently competitive with "finer-grained" techniques such as DejaVu in terms of their ability to produce significant reductions in test cases that are selected. However, fine-grained techniques sometimes substantially outperform coarse-grained techniques.
