The International Conference in Software Engineering (ICSE) means a lot to me. I have been associated with it during most of my professional career as attendee, author, reviewer, track-organizer, program co-chair, and most recently as member and then chair of the Steering Committee (SC), the body that oversees and provides long-term leadership for the conference.
In those roles I came to appreciate ICSE’s many accomplishments: we consistently put together a premier technical program, we have a vibrant and engaged global community, and although we are over 40 years old we continue to grow the field and the community.
How those accomplishments are managed is not self-evident. So to shed some light into that process, I started what I hope will be a series of articles describing “The State of ICSE”. The first one appeared in Sigsoft SE Notes November 2016.
