Course Objective

Understand the principles of Data Abstraction through use of Abstract Data Types (ADT), develop problem solving techniques such as Recursion and utilize C++ to implement, test and document solutions to examples and assigned problems.

Class Structure

Lectures - 3 Times a week

Hours M W F 10:30 to 11:20

Classroom: 217 Ferguson

Lab - once a week

Purposes Working in UNIX environment using appropriate tools to perform programming exercises and get HINTS on homework assignments.
Hours: T:8:30-9:20, W:9:30-10:30, F:11:30-12:20, M:2:30-3:20

Requirements

High Level Programming Language (CS 155 & Math 106)

On Assignments

Assignment Due Dates

Due before 5:00PM on the stated due date
Late Assignments lose 20% per day
5 days after due date the assignments will no longer be accepted

Programming Assignments MUST be done in C++ under CSE environment

Platform or compiler excuses are not acceptable

Homework grading policy:

Programs that don’t compile MAX 25%
Programs that compile but don’t run MAX 50%
Program runs, implements all features and shows right results under different tests: MAX 80%
Program runs, implements all features and shows right results under different tests and is well documented: MAX 100%

We will have 5/6 assignments

Programming Assignments must be handled through "hand in"

On Quizzes and Exams

We will have approximately 5 UNANNOUNCED quizzes

Quizzes cannot be made up

Test cannot be made up unless PRIOR approval is given by instructor

Tests cannot be taken in advance

On Challenges

`If you believe that the grading is not correct, you can submit a challenge. The procedure is as Follows:

Specify the Assignment/Exam and question to be challenged
Attach the challenged Assignment/Exam
Write a readable paragraph to convince us you are right (cite the book if necessary)
Send the Challenge packet to TA grader
The right to challenge a grade expires 5 days after the graded assignment/exam has been returned.

Attendance is not mandatory. However students are responsible for all matter that transpires during the class including announcements, changes in schedule, covered material, and announced quizzes (which cannot be made up)

Assignments

No "Code sharing"
No "solution sharing"
No "write up sharing"
Acknowledge help received from other individuals
Acknowledge paper/book/article/code used.
Follow Student Code of Conduct
Cheating will result in an F for the assignment

Exams:

No "Exam Sharing" of any kind
Follow the Student Code of Conduct
Cheating will result in an F in the Course.

Questions

Not all questions can be answered in a class of 100 plus students. They can be asked after class or can be asked of TA's or Help Desk or through e-mail. Questions not able to be answered immediately will be added to Parking Lot on web Page with answer.

Incomplete

It's (Incomplete) will be given in the class
