General Meeting - Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at 6:00pm Meeting called to order at 6:05pm Attendees: Brandon Smith, Zach Berns, Matt Jorde, Luke Wilson, Yuliy Pisetsky, Danny Kile, Erick Lang, Derek Weitzel, Aaron Bonebright, Lori Nichols, Cesar Delgado, Katie Woolf, Julie Sunderman, (no faculty). We discussing companies that have gotten back to us regarding information, tours, and speakers. Those companies are: Design Data (Tom Duden) is planning on having us over for a tour of their facility and a presentation on Tuesday, April 11, at 6:00 pm. Digital IMS (Rob Nickolaus) has offered to set up an evening tour and presentation at Digital IMS any time. I need to get back with Rob soon. i2rd (Sheryl Stewart) - Joseph Knecht is willing to speak to our group at one of our meetings. I need to get back with Sheryl soon. Raytheon in Arizona (June W. Foltz) has offered to send us videos, pamplets, etc. Someone from her team *might* be able to come to one of our meetings to speak because they attend the Strategic Space Conference in Omaha annually. Nebraska Heart Hospital - they haven't been contacted by us yet, but the representative that Matt Jorde talked to said they would be interested in giving us a tour and/or a presentation. Zach Berns agreed to contact them. CSCG (Mel Ciment) suggests we look at their website (www.cscubed.com) for information about their company. Otherwise, no offers in terms of speakers, etc. Brandon will email i2rd to inquire about the speaker coming to our next meeting, which will be on Tuesday, March 21, at 6:00pm. We decided that we should wait to visit Digital IMS next (fall) semester given that we have Design Data, i2rd, the LAN party, Yale Patt, and CSE Day still coming up. Brandon will e-mail Digital IMS to let them know that we're still interested, but would like to wait until next semester. Several potential sponsors have been contacted for the LAN party - newegg.com, bawls, alienware, etc. No definite responses yet, but Balws apparently have a good at accepting. However, we would need to clean up the website a bit. Luke Wilson now has access and said that he will take care of mainting it. David proposed that we postpone the LAN party until the fall. Cesar recommended that we do hold the LAN party, but deligate the responsibility of planning and executing it to several people. David mentioned that we haven't had a healthy financial state for awhile. Matt suggested that the LAN party would be a good fundraiser. Aaron said that he talked to Triangle faternity and he can get 20 people to come from there. Other potential ways to boost participation: the RA's at Kauffman have a yearly quota for all-floor activities and this might be something they could use for that, the Husker Linux User Group (HLUG) and the Omaha Linux User Group (OLUG) mailing lists (Cesar said they are at our disposal), and an advertisement in the DN. It was decided that we WILL have the LAN party after all on March 24-25. Aaron, Derek, Luke, and Zach will jump on LAN party planning. Next meeting confirmed: Tuesday, March 21, at 6:00pm. Erick Lang mentioned briefly IEEE social events and suggested that we might look to them for ideas. David mentioned board games as an idea. Meeting adjourned at 6:45pm.
