Technical Communications

CSE graduate students had the opportunity to participate in two pilot technical communication courses offered by the CSE Department and funded by the Great Plains Software Technology Initiative.

The courses were offered in response to faculty and student requests for help in improving student communication skills. Based on input from students and faculty, areas targeted in the courses included logical organization of ideas in writing and oral presentations, appropriate tone and style based on the audience and purpose, and awareness of proper format and citation of research material. In addition to class time, one-on-one mentoring sessions also gave the students an opportunity to work directly with the course instructor on papers they were writing as part of their research or course work.
