Abstract

The ultimate Big Data challenge is to achieve optimal “value”. Specific to Earth Science data analysis, there are other different kinds of challenges along the way. We discuss some of the technical challenges as well as social ones. Associated with challenges are opportunities, which will also be discussed accordingly.

Speaker Bio

Dr. Kwo-Sen Kuo obtained his Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Atmospheric Science from National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of China. He then came to the US, after completing ~2 years of mandatory military service, for graduate studies and obtained MS in Meteorology from South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, SD, and PhD in Atmospheric Science with specialization in atmospheric radiative transfer from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. It took him a total of 10 years of graduate schooling before obtaining his PhD degree because he was interested in many computer science topics and attended those classes. However, the skills that cost him time to acquire also prepared him to do things that he is doing today.
